Chest Running Etiquette
Chest running is getting more popular, and as a result we are seeing an increase in the number of inexperienced runners. Which means.. it's time for a guide
Rules:
1. Know the Area. You have to counter what the area will throw at you. Examples: hex removal for kurzick runs, balanced stance for the southeastern luxon areas, condition and hex removal for Raisu.
2. Wait for patrols. Ideally you only want to run through one group, and end up somewhere that you can rest and recharge your skills/energy. Watch the patrol patterns and wait for the ideal time to run through.
3. Use your speed boost. I see this all the time, if you don't boost your speed then the mobs will chase you for a long time. Sprint, let them stop following, and rest.
4. Don't bring aggro to your teammates. This usually happens to those who don't follow rule 3. Your teammates are all resting and recharging, and you slowly run and join them..bringing a patrol with you. This is a good way to get cursed out. Also don't jump the gun and run through a patrol that is very close to your group, they may well see your teammates and attack.
5. Don't spread disease. When you have disease on you, stay away from your teammates. If you get too close, you will give it to them. Not very nice, and also a good way to get cursed out.
6. Don't zone. This is the ultimate way to garner the hate of your party. Forgot your keys? Forgot a skill? Done running? Map out and join the next group.
7. Res your teammates/bring a res. If they are in a ressable position, then res them. Not only will they appreciate it, more bodies running = less hits for you. If you die in an unressable position, don't complain. When everyone is dead you will res at the shrine and be able to continue.
8. Bring a running build. This seems obvious, but if you have to beg the warriors in the party to wait and Charge! you for every patrol/chest..then you don't have a running build.
9. Communicate. If you open a chest or see one opened, report to the team (if they aren't all with you) where it is and what color ("gold at shrooms", "grape at dead end", etc).
10. Don't go afk. If your whole team dies are you are afk and alive, be prepared to get cursed out (especially if there are golds). If you absolutely have to go afk, die first. Or better yet, map out.
11. Bring keys. At least 5, if you want to complete the run.
and the most important rule of all:
12: OPEN A CHEST. There is nothing sadder than to see a party of 8 reach a chest, and having everyone just stand there. So to all of you leeches out there, stop being cheap and open a chest once in a while. If you take turns opening chests, the run moves 10x faster and everyone gets just as many golds. Unfortunately, I think only friends and guildies will ever experience this kind of efficiency due to the number of leeches in the general gw population.

Also a note: ANY profession can Chest Run, even if they aren't Warrior or Ranger primary (if you have both campaigns)
Go Ranger Secondary, get 12 Wilderness Survival, and use Dodge, Zojun's Haste, and Storm Chaser. (Troll Uguent is optional). You'll be able to keep running near indefinately, regardless of your class.
I often outrun Warriors with those skills.

Wow, are you going to tell me how to eat a banana next? I keep getting stuck after I peel it and don't know what to do after that point.
Also, what the heck is this:

So instead of staying alive, I should kill myself? Because it's much better to all be dead in the Fissure of Woe instead of having the AFKer having a chance of coming in and Rebirthing the entire team because they accidentally aggroed some mob running around?

I've been running chests in Nahpui Quarter lately, and it's loads of fast-paced fun. You don't need any condition removal, hex removal, or Balanced Stance. You don't have to worry about patrols either. It's a great place to start running chests I think. Just don't get too far ahead or behind the group. Be mindful of the power in numbers, since you want to distribute the damage taken amongst the party members. I've seen good runners from every class make this run.
I use a W/Mo and the following build: Sprint, Defensive Stance, Endure Pain, Healing Signet, Healing Hands, Healing Breeze, Mending, Res Sig. I spread my points out in Tactics, Strength, and Healing. Other good warrior skills to bring are Charge and Shields Up.
There's a few drawbacks from this run. The chests are only Canthan chests so they won't count towards your chest farmer title. Only about 1 in 5 chests are gold so leeching can be a problem. Usually if you ask nicely people won't leech chests though. At least half of the golds I find aren't even max damage. It hurts to get that req. 8, 15>50 rare axe with only 6-27 damage on it.

Do you really need that many healing skills..?
Here's my W/Mo Chest running build, I use this for Raisu.
Charge
Sprint
Shield's Up!
Healing Signet
Endure Pain
Holy Veil
Remove Conditions
Rebirth
Attributes in Strength, Tactics.
Usually the last guy alive, rebirthing everyone.
Works for me.

Ok, a race. Me, you and FoW. Very few chest runners have the knowledge of how to get round alone. They also don't know there limits. As a R/Mo with no condition removal, Cripple + Berserkers = Dead. Many warriors on the other hand seem to see patrols including Skeleton Icehands as a challenge, the sad thing is they usually escape as the berserkers rampage after the 1 behind them. If you asked a typical W/Mo who does chest running round FoW to get past the Ele/Mes group and the first Skeleton group, you can guarantee the majority would run through them and die halfway, possibly they get lucky and they start fighting and ignore you. Ask a smarter runner (or 1 who's done solo Forest Farming), you pull the skeletons into the shadows, let them brawl and run past.
Just because any profession can run to droks doesn't mean any profession can run chests.

If you can chest run the FoW, you don't need a guide.

Biggest thing is People that are so afriad of lossing 1 key that they NEVER open a chest first.
If you get too many of these in a group..You just get to a chest and BOOM the run is over...
This was Literally happened to me in Pve Tombs. We cleared out first map, got to second map, clearedi t out til got to a chest. Then the whole run just stopped and everyone just started saying "No, YOU OPEN IT, I'm not wasting MY KEYS" to each other...Half the group rage quit, and the run was over..

I don't need that much healing, but I bring it for other people that might be in trouble, particulary it's for helping people with a poor running build. Also, Nahpui Quarter is a brute force run with very little need for finesse or pauses so the extra healing helps the run go quicker. For runs in FoW, Raisu, etc... I'd surely bring a different build.

This is why I do chest runs with people i know. There are too many morons who think patrols make your regen faster.

congratulations to all the immature dorks.
You have an internet connection an account on GWG and the ability to post pointless sarcastic belittling comments. Step in line with the many other dorks out there who feel the need to act like children to prove how much of a toughie they are.
Myswheels made the thread to lay down the basics and give people a little insight. You want to add something, add more information. Not "omg i tell me how i eat a bannana".
Congratulations you're a chump, and you dont know everything, there comes a time when you'll be curious on a topic you have no knowledge about. And you want to read up on that and read information, not page after page of children talking smack aruging "batman can beat spiderman"
What about the kiting thread, it was about kiting, thanks to whoever made that. many of us know it already, some dont, we dont need dorks saying "durr of course you run away from tanks"
Thank you Myswheel for making a thread on a now popular form of farming and title gaining.
